A website of your own is the first essential requirement for generating any online business income.
There are a huge amount of free options like Tumblr, or WordPress.com but I don’t recommend going that route for 3 very important reasons:
Your domain name will be a subdomain extension to the service provider’s own unique domain when using a free service.
If I created TFR on Tumblr, the internet address would be thefuturerich.tumblr.com instead of www.thefuturerich.com.au
You have heaps less options for revenue generation and design.
Eg, with free WordPress.com sites, you are not allowed to put any ads on your site, including Adsense or any other forms of advertisement. And you are only allowed to use a few approved basic plugins to customise design and functionality.
Your business is vulnerable.
As an example, if Tumblr shut down next week, your whole business would disappear and you wouldn’t be able to do anything about it.
These reasons are enough on their own, which is why I definitely recommend going with a self-hosted website with your own domain name.
It looks much more professional, you can customise the design layout the way you like, and very importantly you can run ads or sell products from there.
THE WEBSITE HOST I USE
I originally used GoDaddy, but had a few issues, ever since I changed to Bluehost I’ve been really happy. I love their pricing, reliability and customer support which is why I have over 10 websites with them. They are one of the biggest web hosting companies in the world too.
You always hear from other online business owners about huge issues with reliability and their sites going down and taking to forever to get back online. I’ve never had those kinds of problems thankfully.
I definitely recommend using Bluehost for your first blog or website, so you can get started for less than $4 a month and have your first website up and running in less than 10 minutes.
How to start a website in 6 minutes using Bluehost
Step 1 – go to www.bluehost.com (opens new window)
Step 2 – Follow the instructions in this video
Note that it’s not me in this video, I went through a heap and found the best tutorial and edited out all the spammy or unnecessary bits. I will upload my own video when I get a chance.
And there you have it! I’ll add more to this post at a later time, including how to put ads on your website, how to get more traffic to your site and more.
If you have any questions at all please let me know in the comments or email me! I’ll be happy to help answer any questions you have.
Thanks so much for visiting my site and reading this post, I really love being able to help people take the first step on their journey to one day living the rich life!
